MARIA BELLO SAYS NEW ‘PRIME SUSPECT’ A “WHOLE DIFFERENT SENSIBILITY”

Maria Bello stars as tough minded NYPD detective Jane Timoney in Prime Suspect, and she is quick to point out that this series barely resembles the acclaimed Helen Mirren version.

“Do you know when I first read the script, I had seen the other Prime Suspect years ago,” says Bello, who was also seen this year in the drama Beautiful Boy.  “It’s such a different script.  It has such a sense of humor.  It’s more modern. The characters are sort of quirkier.  It’s a whole different sensibility.  So I had never really compared the two.”

ZOE SALDANA ON WOMEN: “WE HAVE THE CAPABILITY OF HURTING ANYTHING”

col9

Producer Luc Besson is known for having strong female heroines in his features (La Femme Nikita, The Messenger, The Professional), and Colombiana follows that same line.  Zoe Saldana, who plays an assassin bent on wiping out the cutthroats who killed her parents, believes that when it comes to fighting, some guys severely underestimate the power of women.

“Men cannot deal with the reality of a woman getting hurt,” says Saldana.  “Us as women, we know we have the capability of hurting anything.  So that to me is the difference.”

KATIE HOLMES IS IN THE “DARK” WITH GUILLERMO DEL TORO

DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, producer Guillermo del Toro’s latest offering, centers on a young girl named Sally (Bailee Madison) who discovers monsters reside in her new home.

“Being a mother myself only gave me more insight (to the role),” says co-star Katie Holmes, who plays the girlfriend of Sally’s dad (Guy Pearce).  “I think when you’re a parent, you can’t turn things on and off.  You’re raw, and it’s always there and available. Any child in peril means something different to me now that I am a mother.”

‘COLOMBIANA’ STAR ZOE SALDANA UNWINDS WITH WINE

colom3

Zoe Saldana is front and center with Colombiana, as she plays Cataleya, an assassin bent on eliminating the criminals who killed her parents.

“I reread The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, so that I could understand what it’s like to have undergone such traumatic experiences in your life and fall in this spell where you sort of create this alternate personality where you’re like this warrior or punisher,” says the Avatar actress.  “I was watching a lot of animal behavior because to me whenever she wasn’t playing any of her roles to kill her targets, when she was in the comfort of her house, she was such an omega wolf.  Such an outcast.  But when she was killing, she was a snake.  There were so many things I needed to take into consideration in order to create Cataleya.”
