‘THOR’ STILL THE BOX-OFFICE CHAMP WITH $34.5 MILLION

THOR Thor retained its #1 spot at the box-office, as it made $34.5 million and beat out newcomer Bridesmaids ($24.4 million).  Domestically, Thor has made over $119 million.  Produced by Judd Apatow, Bridesmaids opened to positive critical reception and the picture, budgeted at over $32 million, should be another moneymaker for Mr. Apatow. The domestic debut of Screen Gems’ movie Priest was a disappointment, as it managed just a fourth place finish ($14.5 million).  Priest, however, is doing well overseas, having made $25.6 million over two weekends.  Here’s the top 10:

1.  ThorChris Hemsworth’s star continues to rise, as he has signed on to Snow White And The Huntsman, which co-stars Kristen Stewart. $34.5 million.

2.  BridesmaidsSaturday Night Live member Kristen Wiig also co-wrote the film, which was produced by her Knocked Up director Judd Apatow.  $24.4 million.

3.  Fast Five – The picture, which has collected over $440.5 million worldwide, is the most financially successful Fast and the Furious installment.  $19.53 million.

4.  PriestPaul Bettany reunites with his Legion director Scott Charles Stewart for this warrior priest vs. vampires adventure.  $14.5 million.

5.  Rio – $8 million.

6.  Jumping the Broom – Made for an estimated $6.6 million, the picture has taken in over $25.9 million domestically. This weekend’s totals:  $7.3 million.

7.  Something BorrowedIn its second week of release, the romantic comedy took in $7 million.

8.  Water for Elephants$4.1 million.

9.  Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family – $2.2 million

‘FALLING SKIES’ STAR MOON BLOODGOOD IS NOT A TWITTER OR FACEBOOK FAN

moon4

There will be ample time to discuss actress Moon Bloodgood’s role in the upcoming drama series Falling Skies, a project which is headlined by Noah Wyle and executive produced by Steven Spielberg; but for now let’s discuss Bloodgood’s interesting opinions regarding Facebook, Twitter, and technology.

Although she played a resistance fighter in Terminator: Salvation and a pediatrician who joins a group of survivors to battle aliens in Falling Skies, Bloodgood is not exactly beholden to technology. “I barely know how to send attachments,” said Bloodgood, who promoted Falling Skies yesterday in Los Angeles.  “I get on the computer and I just don’t know what to do with it.  I’m not a computer person.  I’m kind of like a little bit rebellious, a little bit old school.  I don’t like having a cell phone, I don’t always pick up my phone. I just have this side of me that really likes my private time.  What’s weird to me about Facebook is that (it’s about) ‘Look how many friends I have, look how good I look in this picture.’  I’m an actor I already do enough showing off.  I don’t need to be like ‘how popular I am, look at me in a bathing suit, let me tweet about my dentist appointment.’  I don’t care about other people’s dentist appointments, let alone my own.  So I don’t want to look at other people’s Twitter.  I think we put a lot of importance on ourselves. We really need to define our identity to feel like we are connected to the world.  I challenge myself to feel more connected in different ways.”

Bloodgood, who did a rather credible job seducing Robert De Niro in a bathroom (in the showbiz satire What Just Happened), explains why she feels “overwhelmed by technology.”
