Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen paled in comparison to the original film, but the latest trailer of Transformers: Dark of the Moon looks terrific. Apparently the U.S. government has kept a few secrets from Optimus Prime and his brave Autobots, as the 1960s space race was not just about landing on the moon. Plus, it’s great to see Frances McDormand (Fargo, Burn After Reading) joining the franchise, as she warns Sam Witwicky, “If you breath a word of what you’ve seen here, we’ll do time for treason.” For some cinema purists, watching Michael Bay films is akin to doing time, but explosions, over the top action, and end of the world scenarios are dishes served on most summer film menus. Bay’s body of work, even at its nadir (The Island), has at least entertained me for a couple of hours (plus, The Rock and Transformers still hold up).
Any movie whose title could be a Pink Floyd album is good enough for me, and newcomer Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is definitely easy on the eyes. It’s amazing that with so many beauties in the Transformers universe (Megan Fox, Isabel Lucas, Rachael Taylor), all Sam can do is yell….Optimus!! One hopes that there is “more than meets the eye” with Transformers Dark of the Moon, which opens nationwide July 1st.
