Neil Portnow, Recording Academy president announced in a statement, “After careful and extensive review and analysis of all categories and fields, it was objectively determined that our Grammy categories be restructured to the continued competition and prestige of the highest and only peer-recognized award in music.”

What all that means is that the presentation awards at the Grammys will be whacked to 78 from its current 109, and there will no longer be male and female distinctions, only a category for solo performance.
