Simon Cowell‘s new competition show, X Factor will be opening it’s doors to most anyone, including contestants as young as 12.
“We’ve started to see a trend with kids this age and what they can do,” Cowell told reporters while hyping his show. “I like the idea that a 12-year-old on this show can compete with an older singer … times have changed. You have to make a case-by-case decision based on them as a person.”
Cowell confessed that he’s learned to be less presumptuous about physical appearances.
“I have to be more open minded,” he said. “I don’t believe Susan Boyle would have got through in the old-fashion audition method…. God only knows what we would have said to (Lady Gaga) if she walked into Idol with a lobster on her head three years ago.”
The winner of Cowell‘s X Factor will get a $5 million record deal.
auditions for contestants begin March 27 in Los Angeles.
