Season ten of American Idol premieres Wednesday, January 19th (FOX, 8-10 pm et/pt), armed with two new judges, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez who will hopefully reinvigorate the series.  Last season’s champ (Lee DeWyze) and finalist (Crystal Bowersox) have failed to reach the prodigious achievements of past contestants (Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson), and American Idol needs contestants with innate talent and charisma (DeWyze, though blessed with a strong voice, is just plain boring).  No matter what the outcome, expect American Idol stalwart Randy Jackson to give the singers some much needed advice.   “I’ve been these kids,” said Jackson.  “I’ve been in their shoes.  But I think Steven and Jennifer as well, we’ve all lived and walked in their shoes.  I mean you can ask them both how many times did they audition for a band.  How many times did they audition for something they didn’t get?  I mean it’s tough you know, it’s really tough. But I mean we can definitely empathize with them.”  Click on the media bar and listen to Randy Jackson talk about working with Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.
