JOEL MCHALE’S “COMMUNITY” IS A DREAM JOB

Joel McHale is not ashamed to wax poetic about his NBC series Community, a show about a group of misfits (McHale, Chevy Chase, Donald Glover, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie) who attend Greendale Community College.  Although it’s one of the funniest sitcoms on TV, Community didn’t receive a Best Comedy Emmy nod (a category won by Modern Family).  The Emmy snub, however, doesn’t seem to faze McHale, who is just glad to be a part of the show.  “I love my job, I love the cast,” says the actor, who’s also the longtime host of E!’s The Soup. “And I love the crew, it’s ideal.  So something’s going to go horribly wrong.”  Click on the media bar to hear McHale talk about his wish to have Community on the air for at least seven years.

GREG GIRALDO LEAVES US LAUGHING, ANGRY

Greg Giraldo

We wrote a few days ago that comedy star Greg Giraldo had taken an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, said to be recovering, and the next news would certainly be his return.  But the next news was a terse release saying that Giraldo, 44 had died.

Of the many tributes and obits that followed Giraldo‘s passing, Joan Rivers (on the wicked receiving end of one of his roasts) said in a phrase what fans, entertainment writers and co-workers tried to express with “I’m very angry…What a waste of comedic talent.”

JESSE EISENBERG GETS “SOCIAL” WITH AARON SORKIN

jessie-eisenberg Actor Jesse Eisenberg (Zombieland) may be up for his first Oscar nod for his compelling performance as Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network (opening today).  Directed by David Fincher and penned by Aaron Sorkin, the picture centers on the early days of Facebook, as Zuckerberg becomes a billionaire but loses a few friends in the process (Andrew Garfield co-stars as Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin).  Eisenberg has been a fan of Aaron Sorkin’s since the writer’s Sports Night days, and he was definitely pleased to collaborate with Sorkin for The Social Network. Click on the media bar to hear why Eisenberg, although he’s very close to the material, gets different impressions of The Social Network with each viewing.

SARA RAMIREZ LOVES PLAYING “CALLIE” ON “GREY’S”

sara-ramirezThe chemistry between Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) and her girlfriend, Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) is one of Grey’s Anatomy’s strongest facets.  In last week’s season premiere episode, Callie asked the commitment phobic Arizona to move in with her, and that natural progression might put a damper on their relationship. Callie’s strong desire to have a baby strongly conflicted with Arizona’s priorities, and the couple spent most of last season bickering.  Ramirez credits Grey’s Anatomy’s writing staff for turning the stubborn doctors into a believable couple.  “The writers have found a really brilliant way to bring a very human relationship and a story that reflects the real world out there to a show in a way that is romantic, that is sexy that is thoughtful that has universal messages in all relationships,” says Ramirez.  Click on the media bar to hear Ramirez talk about Grey’s Anatomy, which airs on ABC tonight at 9 pm et/pt.

Fringe (Thursdays, 9:00 p.m. ET/PT, FOX) is off to a bold start this season with FBI agent, Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) trapped in an alternate universe and her duplicate from that world living her life.

Joshua Jackson, who stars as Peter Bishop on the sci-fi series, is all set for a wild ride this year – hoping that the worlds collide quickly with no clear-cut heroes or villains.
