The final film to be featured in the Oscar Noir screening series at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is the classic James Cagney gangster flick, White Heat.
Cagney stars as Cody Jarrett, a man with a monster of an Oedipus complex. He escapes from the slammer and begins another reign of mayhem by planning a payroll heist at a chemical plant. Enter undercover cop Vic Pardo (Edmund O’Brien), who befriends Jarrett to infiltrate his gang.
If you haven’t seen this pic, this is a great opportunity to watch it as the filmmaker intended, on the big screen.
This is the movie where Cagney utters the famous line, “Made it, Ma! Top of the world!”
White Heat screens Monday, August 30th, 7:30 p.m. at the Academy’s Sam Goldwyn Theater.
