Seriously, did anyone doubt that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse would be at the top of the heap with moviegoers this weekend? But, who could have predicted the numbers? From Friday to Sunday, the flick has banked an additional $69 million! That brings its total, in less than a week, to a whopping $161 million. This pic only cost $68 mil, which means its recouped its costs and made a nearly $100 mil profit!
The Last Airbender did very well in second place with $40 million and is now on a good path with fans of the genre. However, it still has a ways to go before meeting its production costs of $150 mil.
Toy Story 3 is still bringing in plenty of cash. The third sequel in the animated feature nabbed another $30.1 million. Hardly kid stuff for the pic, which has well surpassed its $200 mil budget with an estimated total take of $289 million in just three weeks.
Grown Ups landed in fourth place with $18.5 million. That’s a 53.4-percent drop since its bow last week. The film cost $80 mil so it is closing in on recouping its cost. Right now the pic has amassed a respectable estimated $77 million in total.
The Tom Cruise–Cameron Diaz action romantic comedy Knight & Day, dropped to fifth place with $10.2 million. The film debuted in third position last week and has lost 49.4-percent of its audience since then. And with $45.5 million to show for its efforts, Knight & Day is far below its $117 million budget.
