It’s not exactly a spoiler to reveal that, in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Luke Skywalker once again boards the iconic Millennium Falcon spaceship. Of course, in the original Star Wars trilogy, Mark Hamill’s character had plenty of thrilling moments and memorable experiences aboard the ship, so he found it to be a surprisingly emotional experience when he returned to the ship for the first time during the filming of The Last Jedi.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is playing in theaters everywhere; if you didn’t know that already, you must have been frozen in carbonite!
While Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker famously had less than a minute of screen time in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (while getting a full starring credit), he definitely had to earn that credit in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Skywalker plays a much larger role in the new film, and Hamill told us it was certainly more demanding, especially since his appearance in The Force Awakens hinted at a pivotal storyline involving the character.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now playing in theaters.
The countdown is on — Star Wars: The Last Jedi is just seven weeks away! We still don’t know much about the plot yet — all we’ve seen are the trailers and a few other equally vague materials — we know we’re excited. We know you’re excited. And we know that Mark Hamill is excited. When we spoke to Luke Skywalker himself, he told us exactly why he’s so excited about the latest entry in the Star Wars saga. Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in theaters December 15.
One huge reason Star Wars: The Last Jedi has my vote of confidence is Rian Johnson, the first rate story behind Brick and Looper, is behind the camera. More screen time from Mark Hamill and late actress Carrie Fisher will also be welcome, and Daisy Ridley proved in The Force Awakens that she has the acting chops and charisma to carry a Star Wars flick.
Even with the tease of Rey (Ridley) being tempted by Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) to join the Dark Side, Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s latest trailer was a bit underwhelming. John Boyega wielding a lightsaber was a truly memorable moment in The Force Awakens trailer, and unfortunately this clip doesn’t have any eye popping moments (though the new AT-AT Walkers look pretty cool). Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens nationwide December 15.
Since Star Wars: The Force Awakens exceeded most people’s expectations, the bar has been set pretty high for the next chapter in the series. Based on the trailer and some of the footage we’ve seen, though, it looks like Star Wars: The Last Jedi has plenty of potential. Since so little is known about The Last Jedi, we asked Mark Hamill — who will see much more screen time as Luke Skywalker in the new movie (we promise!) — if he could shed any light on what we’ll be seeing. According to Hamill, we should prepare for a few surprises.
