Marc Webb, who directed this year’s Gifted, is behind the camera once again with The Only Living Boy In New York, and this one may reach the creative heights of his best work 500 Days of Summer.

Callum Turner, best known for his work in the first rate thriller Green Room plays a college grad named Thomas who’s trying to woo his friend (Kiersey Clemons) with a bit of help from a wizened neighbor (Jeff Bridges). His mission gets thrown for a loop after he discovers his dad (Pierce Brosnan) is having an affair with a younger woman (Kate Beckinsale). While attempting to stop this affair from continuing, Thomas further complicates the matter. Cynthia Nixon co-stars as Thomas’ mom who wisely says that “the only way out is through.”

The picture’s moniker comes from the excellent Simon & Garfunkel tune. Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think.

The Only Living Boy In New York opens nationwide August 11.

‘Rampart’ Director Had To Streamline James Ellroy’s Script To Get It To The Screen

rampart1In theaters now, RAMPART boasts Oscar-worthy performances as it weaves a story of a corrupt Los Angeles cop trying to claw his way out of an Internal Affairs investigation that could cost him his job. Gritty and intense, the film is directed by OREN MOVERMAN, who re-wrote the original screenplay by legendary novelist JAMES ELLROY. Set in 1999 against the backdrop of the L.A. Rampart scandal, the movie stars WOODY HARRELLSON, BEN FOSTER (who also produced), ANNE HECHE, CYNTHIA NIXON, ROBIN WRIGHT, SIGOURNEY WAVER, STEVE BUSCEMI and ICE CUBE.
Re-writing the work of an author with the reputation of ELLROY might seem, at the least, daunting. During a press conference to promote the film, MOVERMAN explained that he was just doing what was necessary to get the story to the screen. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)
