IT’S CALLED SWAG #2

20 Jun 2008 Filed under: MOVIE NEWS

There are two kinds of swag: decorative and practical. This large, heavy duty travelbag has many pockets and falls into the ‘practical’ category because it can be used to store all of the ‘decorative’ swag.

With thanks to the folk at Columbia Pictures and YOU DON’T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN

DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY….

19 Jun 2008 Filed under: BREAKING NEWS

She was known as “America’s Sweetheart”, “The Girl Next Door” and “The Perpetual Virgin”,  but according to author DAVID KAUFMAN, she was anything but.

In his latest book, DORIS DAY: THE UNTOLD STORY OF THE GIRL NEXT DOOR (Virgin Books $29.95), KAUFMAN details the many and complex aspects of this big-band singer turned actress turned cultural icon.

While KAUFMAN doesn’t hold back any facts and isn’t afraid to show his subject “warts and all” he chose not to overplay the fact that DAY was not only gay friendly but often surrounded herself with gay friends and associates.

We spoke with DAVID KAUFMAN yesterday and he talked about his editorial decisions (click MEDIA FILE below)

Attended a screening of WALL-E in the FRANK WELLS BUILDING on the Walt Disney lot in Burbank yesterday. And, while that fim deserves a bit of discussion, the huge HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 1 & 2 costume exhibit in the lobby was nothing less than stellar.

Don’t be surprised to see that The Disney Channel’s upcoming tv movie, CAMP ROCK, is this years HSM. It premieres this Friday, 6/20 at 8 pm.

We spoke with CAMP ROCK stars, THE JONAS BROTHERS, about making the movie at the same time they were recording an album and how their parents keep them on track (click the MEDIA FILE below)

DWAYNE JOHNSON Kisses and Tells

19 Jun 2008 Filed under: MOVIE NEWS

Over the past year, superstar DWAYNE JOHNSON has had no problem poking fun at his macho image as wrestling giant THE ROCK. Fans gave him a pass for that HANNAH MONTANA episode that had him in make-up and full drag. But the jury’s still out on how those same fans will react to his face-to-face smooch with co-star STEVE CARRELL in the upcoming big screen comedy, GET SMART….especially since he’s telling the press that he loved it.
GET SMART opens in theaters everywhere on 6/20….

There’s probably no better way to get international face-time than to go on live tv and swear like a drunken sailor. Witness JOAN RIVERS who claims not to have known that the Brit chat show, LOOSE WOMEN, didn’t have a delay button when she went on to describe actor RUSSELL CROWE as a fornicating pound o’ poo (or words to that effect). I mean, REALLY….nobody who’s had as many television shows as RIVERS gets in front of a live tv  camera and does that unless she wants a little attention from the youtube community.

I know this clip has been all over the interwebs for a couple of days now but we here at HO  just love it and want to share.

The Love Guru (88 minutes, PG-13, Paramount Pictures) – One could forgive Mike Myers if, after spending two decades inventing such indelible comedic characters as Wayne Campbell (Wayne’s World) and Austin Powers, his creative well had run dry.  Such was the assumption when this reviewer came upon Myers’ latest film, The Love Guru, which has the Saturday Night Live veteran taking on the role of an American guru named Pitka. Raised by gurus in India after his missionary parents pass away, Pitka’s main passion is women, though he is forced by his mentor (Ben Kingsley) to wear a male chastity belt that can only be removed until he is able to love himself unconditionally.  Now a pop culture sensation and the #2 guru in the business (behind Deepak Chopra, who makes a cameo in the film), Pitka is hired by the sexy owner (Jessica Alba) of the Toronto Maple Leafs to repair the rift that has scarred the relationship between her star hockey player Darren Roanoke (Weeds’ Romany Malco) and his wife Prudence (Meagan Good), who is dating a well endowed rival hockey player named Jackques Grande (Justin Timberlake, in his best movie role to date).  Austin Powers staple Verne Troyer (aka Mini-Me) is on hand to provide the perfect comic foil to Pitka’s, as he plays the diminutive coach of the Maple Leafs (which is Myers’ favorite hockey team).  Although much of the film’s humor is woefully grade school (how many penis jokes can Myers, pardon the pun, inject into a picture), Myers’ genial and enthusiastic approach to his material can never be questioned.  The co-stars feed off of Myers’ infectious energy, and The Love Guru is actually a rather winning and diverting experience.  Most of the jokes in the film are easy laughs, but they are laughs nonetheless.  Also, watching Pitka strum a Sitar and do a rendition of Extreme’s hit song “More Than Words” is, as this reviewer would hate to admit, a pure delight!
