thefemalebrainStand-up comic Whitney Cummings’ versatile career includes toplining her own show (Whitney) and co-creating the successful program 2 Broke Girls. She expands her creative horizons as a first time director in The Female Brain.

Adapted from Louann Brizendine’s bestselling book, The Female Brain centers on Julia (Cummings who co-wrote the flick with Neal Brennan), a neuroscientist who is studying the biochemistry of the female brain. Three couples (Cecily Strong and NBA star Blake Griffin, Sofia Vergara and Deon Cole, Lucy Punch and James Marsden) from the basis of her studies. Julia’s research takes a slight curve when a new subject (Toby Kebbell) takes part in her study.

Cummings’ character is described as “straight-laced,” but hopefully her trademark humor will be infused throughout the narrative. If Julia doesn’t get a ton of the laughs, the deadpan humor of Griffin and scene stealing tendencies of Punch should do the trick. The trailer’s pretty amusing, check it out and tell us what you think!

The Female Brain hits theaters and VOD on February 9.
