With autism now affecting one in every 68 children born in the United States, according to the CDC, ABC’s drama The Good Doctor faced the daunting task of portraying an autistic lead character without making him feel like a stereotype. Freddie Highmore, who portrays the character on the show, told us he’s been extremely impressed with the way the show’s producers — led by creator David Shore (who also created House) — have developed Dr. Shaun Murphy in such a realistic way.
