Richard Schiff won an Emmy for his work on The West Wing, but he’s been largely absent from network television since that beloved drama signed off in 2006. He’s been involved with several other shows — mostly on cable — but he’s returned to primetime on ABC’s new medical drama, The Good Doctor. On the show, he’s a mentor and father figure to the main character, an autistic doctor played by Freddie Highmore. So what sold Schiff on The Good Doctor? Part of it was a talk he had with the show’s creator, David Shore (House), but part of it was an amazing experience he had when he was a young actor and felt like an outsider. The Good Doctor airs Monday nights at 10/9c on ABC.
