Domhnall Gleeson, recently seen this year opposite Tom Cruise in American Made, plays Winnie The Pooh author A.A. Milne in Goodbye Christopher Robin. The film deals with Milne’s understandable struggles after serving in World War I and the close bond he builds with his son Christopher (Will Tilston).
“There was a lot of research involved,” said Gleeson. “Ann Thwait’s book was very helpful. Obviously there were his memoirs. There were Christopher Robin’s books. His plays, and then reading Winnie The Pooh – obviously that was the easiest. The rest of it was pretty hardcore and a lot of study of post traumatic stress disorder as well. But you drop all of that when you start filming.” Margot Robbie, who previously worked with Gleeson in About Time, co-stars as Milne’s wife Daphne.
