Last season, The Flash took its characters into some pretty dark places. Fan reactions were decidedly mixed, with many faithful viewers thinking the series got too dark for its own good. While the show’s star, Grant Gustin, has acknowledged the fan backlash and admitted the season was darker than he would have liked, he also told us there were some positive things that came out of Season 3. For example, the more serious storylines gave the show’s young actors a chance to challenge themselves and become better actors. That being said, though, he’s very happy that the show is adopting a much lighter approach to its new season. (Click on the media below to hear Grant Gustin)

Season 4 of The Flash premieres Tuesday, October 10 at 8/7 on The CW.
