Growing up, Mariska Hargitay was the very definition of the “Southern California girl.” Born in Santa Monica to a famous actress (Jayne Mansfield) and a bodybuilder father (Mickey Hargitay), she was young, beautiful, and athletic. And becoming a Hollywood actress only seemed to confirm the stereotype. But then, something happened. She won one of the lead roles on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU, which was to shoot in New York. So, in her mid-30s, she relocated from the Golden State to the Empire State, and Hargitay told us that 18 years in the Big Apple has had a profound impact on her life.
