Hitting theaters November 6, Trumbo focuses on Dalton Trumbo, one of Hollywood’s most celebrated screenwriters who beat the odds an continued to work throughout the blacklist era. During the blacklist, Trumbo penned the screenplays for Roman Holiday and The Brave One before finally breaking through and receiving credit for Spartacus and Exodus.

“He was a very flamboyant character with contradiction and irascibility and passion,” said Cranston. “He was very prolific. He was a beautiful, wonderful big character and dramatic.”

The film also stars Diane Lane (Trumbo’s wife Cleo), Elle Fanning (Trumbo’s daughter Nikola) and Helen Mirren as gossip columnist Hedda Hopper. To listen to Elle Fanning talk about putting on a Halston dress (and being initially unrecognizable to an assistant director), check out Deepest Dream.
