‘The Carmichael Show’ A Three Year Journey For Comedian

NUP_167179_1460.JPG

The Carmichael Show features stand-up comedian Jerrod Carmichael doing triple duties on the show, as he’s a writer, executive producer, and star of the program. Inspired by his own family, the sitcom features David Alan Grier andLoretta Devine starring as his parents and Amber Stevens West playing his girlfriend. Instead of going for the easy joke, Carmichael’s humor is more situational based, and much of his early inspiration came from watching the classic comedies driven by producer Norman Lear (All in the Family, Good Times, The Jeffersons).

Carmichael’s journey to success wasn’t an overnight process. Getting The Carmichael Show on air was a three year development process, but continued collaboration with director Nicholas Stoller (the pair worked together on the comedy Neighbors) helped get the project on track.

“For me, I think it was just having an honest vision of what a show was and what it could be,” says Carmichael, whose 2014 HBO comedy special Love at the Store was directed by Spike Lee. “So having that, the doors kind of opened from there.”

The Carmichael Show premieres tonight on NBC (9/8c).

Kerry Washington: Olivia Pope Is Not What Women Should Aspire To Be

_rbdave73dj1_hires24-350x233ABC’s hit drama Scandal is showcasing star Kerry Washington’s talent as the highly skilled political fixer Olivia Pope. Though some of the show’s storylines can be a bit overwrought and implausible, it’s Washington’s gritty and inspired work that anchors the hugely addicting program.

One of the many things that Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes along with the show writers have done is make Olivia Pope a strong woman who always seems to be up for a challenge. Many women look at Pope as a role model, however Kerry Washington adds that since Pope fixed a presidential election and had an affair with the President, she’s not exactly a pillar of morality. She does, however, have a fantastic wardrobe. (Click on the media bar below to hear Kerry Washington)

Catch the Scandal season premiere September 24 on the ABC.

Adam Lambert Feels Honored To Be Called A Role Model

adam-lambertAlthough he came in second behind Kris Allen on season 8 of American Idol, Adam Lambert has turned his Ido” exposure into a diverse and successful career.  His new single Ghost Town continues to climb the music charts and he’s also artistically flourished while on tour with the legendary rock band Queen.  But what Lambert’s found is that with all of this success comes increased responsibility, since his status as an openly gay pop star has made him a role model for gay teens.

At first, Lambert admits, he found it to be a little intimidating, but he tells us he’s grown to feel comfortable – even privileged – on being called a role model. (Click on the media bar below to hear Adam Lambert)

‘Madden NFL 16’ Brings “Draft Champions” On The Field

madden77

Madden NFL 16 debuts today, and although it’s hard to improve on such an iconic video game franchise, Electronic Arts Inc. continue to make refinements to the gridiron experience. This year, the new Draft Champions enables players to throw a dose of fantasy football into their experience.

“We think Madden NFL 16 delivers an incredible experience for our players,” said Madden NFL 16 executive producer Roy Harvey. “Draft Champions provides a new way to play, bringing the fun of a fantasy football draft to Madden, and providing a strategic challenge both on and off the field. On top of that, the new gameplay elements we’ve introduced this year allow you to achieve some really exciting moments that you’ll want to watch over and over again in replay. It’s a great year to be a playmaker.”

With the Draft Champions mode, players create their own group of elite players that consists of current NFL athletes and legends of the game. The drafted team can go in competition against the CPU or other drafted players. Other fan favorites such as Madden Ultimate Team and Connected Franchise make their return with respective advance and improvements.

Since I’m currently cramming for my own fantasy football draft, I’m excited to check out the Draft Champions feature and hopefully I’ll gain some kind of advantage heading to next week’s draft.

Madden NFL 16 is now available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 consoles.

Are you excited about Madden NFL 16 or are you simply content with playing an earlier version of the franchise? Feel free to comment below!
