Jean Stapleton, who played the lovable character “Edith Bunker” on the iconic series All In the Family, passed away at the age of 90.
Stapleton had a great career starring on Broadway in many hit shows including Damn Yankees and Funny Girl. She also starred in numerous television shows. But it was the role as Archie Bunker’s wife, who Archie affectionately called “dingbat”, which forever cemented her part in television history. The groundbreaking show dealt with many serious social issues that other comedies simply could never match. Stapleton never was stereotyped for this role, and told us years ago that she was grateful for the role and had a wonderful time playing Edith Bunker.
