One would be hard pressed to find a more versatile actress on television than Julie Benz. Her work on the Joss Whedon shows Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel, as well as her turn as Rita Bennett on Dexter are just a few of the standout bullet points on her acting resume (she also had a nice supporting turn in the short-lived CBS series A Good Man).
Now Benz is back for the new series Defiance, a Syfy show that actually draws a connection between the actual program and a video game that is based on the series.
“I think the audiences are demanding it,” says Benz on Defiance’s expanded universe. “They want more than just an hour every week on their television set. They want a deeper connection, they want a deeper experience.”

Defiance, co-starring Grant Bowler and Mia Kirshner, airs tonight on SyFy (9 pm et/pt).
