My favorite musical is definitely “Sweeney Todd” - the combination of its horrific and gory storyline and its grand operatic score makes it the rare musical that’s equal part blood and heart!

You must see ‘Cabaret’; a musical with the music and dance truly integrated into the narrative in a sensible way and also the reason that people still love Liza Minnelli in spite of her now being insane.

I’d have to go with ‘Rent,’ which is one of the most moving musicals I have ever had the pleasure of watching (again and again). Though more classic musicals like Les Miserables are terrific, something about the grimy, rock feel of Rent really interests me. The majority of critics did not like it, but the characters truly make the musical for me. Taye Diggs, Idina Menzel, Anthony Rapp, everyone is incredible. The story is modern and gritty, focusing on a group of Bohemians in New York battling poverty, AIDS, and addiction. Unlike other musicals that I have seen, Rent is not afraid to get in your face to make its point. I like that about it. At the very least, check out the soundtrack - “Take Me or Leave Me,” “La Vie Boheme,” “Light My Candle,” and “Seasons of Love” are all gorgeous tracks.

Les Mis is probably my favorite musical adapted for the big screen. I saw it 4 times in the first 2 weeks in the theaters and loved it more each time.
