Is Jay Leno’s run on late night over? It may be. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that NBC will supposedly make an announcement in May that the 2013-14 television season will be the last season for Jay Leno as the host of The Tonight Show, and that the network will move Jimmy Fallon from his 12:30 a.m. show to the 11:30 p.m. slot, which would start during the Summer of 2014.
The Hollywood Reporter reached out to Leno’s reps who released a short statement saying, “We do not speculate on rumor.” Leno is no stranger to late night show rumors. Many will remember the crazy stories that floated around in the early 1990’s when his management shenanigans eventually led to the retirement of the King of Late Night, Johnny Carson, and Leno took over The Tonight Show. Also, a few years ago Leno moved to a 10:00 p.m. talk show to make room for Conan O’Brien to take over The Tonight Show (in which he had a short run). Leno allegedly had a hand in O’Brien’s ouster from The Tonight Show, and took over as the host.
We have spoken to Leno several times over the years, and he once told us that with The Tonight Show, what you see is what you get it.
Would Jimmy Fallon be good at 11:30 p.m., or should Jay Leno remain the host of The Tonight Show? Let us know what you think!
