One of last night’s most unexpected victories came with Ang Lee’s Best Director Oscar win for Life of Pi. During the backstage interviews, Lee divulged that 90% of the film was shot in Tawain.
“This is really an international film,” said Lee. “I’m glad that Taiwan gets to contribute this much to the film, and therefore present the movie to the whole world. I feel like this movie really belongs to the world.”
Lee also admitted that he carried anxiety for “a very long time” while he developed the picture. “It’s a philosophical book and expensive movie,” added the filmmaker. “Sort of the worst combination and a scary one.”
