Warm Bodies puts a whole new spin on star crossed lovers, especially since R (Nicholas Hoult from Skins and X-Men: First Class) is a zombie who would rather kiss than devour a tasty young woman (I Am Number Four’s Teresa Palmer).
With zombies inhabiting our mind space thanks to countless video games, films, and acclaimed TV shows like The Walking Dead, it’s refreshing to see Warm Bodies placing a whole new spin on the genre, where love hopefully reigns supreme over a fleshy meal.
The picture is directed by Jonathan Levine, who delicately and successfully balanced pathos and comedy with 50/50. Levine could have gone a safer creative route by staying in the dramedy lane, but if you’ve already checked out his melancholic, NYC flick The Wackness, you know Levine loves taking creative gambles.
The smart minds at Summit Entertainment released the first four minutes of Warm Bodies online, and it looks like this undead boy meets girl in danger tale could work (although Palmer’s not featured in the scene, it does feature a couple of funny one liners, so at least the humor’s there). Tell us if the opening moments of the film catches your attention. It definitely caught mine.
Warm Bodies, co-starring John Malkovich and Rob Corddry, opens nationwide February 1st. If you want to check out the trailer click here.
