Paige Thomas made a gutsy move this week by going against mentor Demi Lovato’s wishes to perform “Never Gonna Give You Up,” but that decision yielded disastrous results after she received this week’s lowest number of votes. Thomas’ elimination at the beginning of tonight’s The X Factor was a bit of a surprise, especially since her performance was praised by all of the mentors last night. If Thomas stuck to Lovato’s original plan to belt out another power ballad, would she have stayed? Give credit to the singer for sticking to her creative guns and going out on her own terms. Even if she lasted another week, The X Factor competition is really a two horse race (Carly Rose Sonenclar and Tate Stevens).
“It was amazing building a relationship with Demi,” said Thomas to reporters after tonight’s elimination. “I learned a lot. One thing that I’ve found important that I’ve learned from her is the meaning of balance. And I appreciate that a lot.”
The singer remained upbeat and positive about her exit, as she is determined to make it in the music industry. To hear Paige Thomas, click on the media bar below:
Vino Alan was voted off by all of the mentors except his own (L.A. Reid), as Diamond White lived to see another week on The X Factor (they received the lowest number of votes after Thomas and had to sing for their survival).
Alan’s exit, however, was disheartening, especially since L.A. Reid’s decision to have him perform “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” was a complete misstep. During the rehearsal footage, Alan was performing the classic heartbreaker “If You Don’t Know Me By Know,” and considering the singer’s soulful approach, that was, by 100 miles, the actual song he should have chosen.
After his elimination, Alan spoke to reporters and talked about the type of music he’d love to make. To hear Vino Alan, click on the media bar below:
Carly Rose Sonenclar received the most votes for the second week in a row, with Tate Stevens nipping at her heels.
