Dazzling James Bond fans and putting new life in the 50-year-old 007 franchise, SKYFALL soared to the top of the weekend box office chart with an inspired (estimated) $87.8 m domestic take. The third in the series to star DANIEL CRAIG as the world’s most famous Brit secret agent, it’s no wonder he’s been signed for (at least) two more. Dropping to the #2 position, Disney’s homage to 8-bit video arcade games, WRECK-IT RALPH, scored $33 m in its second week in release. Coming in at #3, DENZEL WASHINGTON’s winning performance as a commercial airline pilot with a penchant for getting high won FLIGHT another $15 m. And, rounding out the Top Five are two entirely different takes on contemporary terrorism: BEN AFFLECK’s ARGO ($6.7 m) and LIAM NEESON’s TAKEN 2 ($4 m).
At last week’s Beverly Hills press conference to promote SKYFALL, star DANIEL CRAIG talked about re-upping for more on-screen action (while producer BARBARA BROCCOLI jumped in for emphasis). (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)
