Making its debut last weekend on HBO and currently running on the network’s schedule, THE GIRL is a surprisingly frank, behind-the-scenes look at some previously unknown (or, at least, only hinted at) events surrounding the filming of ALFRED HITCHCOCK’S iconic thrillers THE BIRDS and MARNIE. Both films were starring vehicles for icy blonde bombshell TIPPI HEDREN, one of a string of fair-haired leading ladies that the corpulent filmmaker obsessed over and (allegedly) lusted after. With disturbing detail, HEDREN allows the film to depict how HITCHCOCK managed to be every bit as creepy in real life as his films were on screen. Directed by JULIAN JARROLD, the cast features SIENNA MILLER and TOBY JONES as the beleaguered actress and her unctuous director. At the Television Critics Association press conference to promote the film, director JARROLD talked about the relationship between his two central characters. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)
