As much as I loved inTENsity’s wide eyed moxie on The X Factor, the groups category unfortunately didn’t reach great heights under Paula Abdul’s watch.  This season should be dramatically different, as teen girl power group Lylas absolutely slayed their rendition of the Shontelle track “Impossible.”

Slapped together by the judges after getting rejected as solo acts, Lylas (short for the phrase love you like a sister) easily outperformed the other groups, including early season favorite Emblem3.  All five girls have distinct voices, and when blended together, offer up solid and well developed harmonies.

Belting out an emotionally driven song in front of Simon Cowell and Marc Anthony could shake anyone’s nerves, but by the end of the track it was Anthony who was visibly moved by their singing.  Since The X Factor producers have given ample face time to Dinah Jane Hansen, Ally Brooke, and Lauren Jauregui, Lylas should be one of this year’s top contenders, and based on their individual vocal abilities, they will be tough to beat.

Simon Cowell, whose success with One Direction and il Divo makes him the perfect mentor for Lylas, could win The X Factor once again with this potential laden group (last season’s winner, Melanie Amaro, was mentored by Cowell).  In the following clip, Cowell explained why he loves the judges home section of The X Factor.  Click on the media bar below to hear Cowell.
