Airing tonight on ABC, NASHVILLE is the delightfully soapy, exciting new musical drama that’s set against the backdrop of the world of country music. A classic combination of passion, jealousy, ambition and rivalry (mixed with musical performances) makes for a great hour of nighttime intrigue. Created by CALLIE KHOURI, the cast includes CONNIE BRITTON, HAYDEN PANETTIERE, SAM PALLADIO, CHARLES ESTEN, ERIC CLOSE, CLARE BOWEN, JONATHAN JACKSON and POWERS BOOTHE.
For actors PALLADIO (a Brit) and BOWEN (from Australia), the trip to America’s country music mecca might seem unlikely but, during our recent interview at a Television Critics Association press event, they talked about their musical roots and their roles on the show.
A new episode of NASHVILLE airs tonight on ABC-TV
Airing tonight on The CW, ARROW is arguably one of this TV season’s more satisfying guilty pleasures. Inspired by the venerable DC comic book character THE GREEN ARROW, the story centers on billionaire playboy Oliver Queen, rescued from a remote island in the Pacific five years after being thought killed in a violent shipwreck. Returning to his home in Starling City, Queen secretly creates the persona of Arrow, a vigilante, to right the wrongs of his family and fight the ills of society. Created by GREG BERLANTI, the cast includes STEPHEN AMELL, PAUL BLACKTHORNE, COLIN DONNELL, SUSANNA THOMPSON and KATIE CASSIDY. Fielding questions at a recent Television Critics Association press conference, CW honcho MARC GUGGENHEIM talked about how the show hews closely to the spirit of its source material. On this day in 1962, Warner Brothers released one of the greatest goth/camp thrillers ever with WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? Coming out of mothballs retirement to star, legendary rivals BETTE DAVIS and JOAN CRAWFORD revitalized their careers and generated a lot of tabloid ink with notorious tales of infighting and backbiting. Despite their antics (both on and off screen) the public’s re-interest in their careers opened the door for other iconic actresses ‘of a certain age’ to return to work. Produced and directed by ROBERT ALDRICH and based on the eerie novel by HENRY FARRELL, WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? has probably inspired more Halloween costumes than almost any spooky film in history.
WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? is available now on DVD and Blu-ray
Opening in theaters this weekend, THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS is an epic kung fu tale set in 19th-century China and centers on a village blacksmith who gets caught in the middle of a war over a trove of fabled gold treasure. Co-writer (with producer ELI ROTH) and director RZA is joined on screen by LUCY LIU (as a brothel madam) and Academy Award-winning actor RUSSELL CROWE (as a ruthless mercenary). Known primarily as a member of the hard-core rap group WU-TANG CLAN, RZA is making his directorial debut with this project and reached out to RUSSELL CROWE for help. During our recent interview, RZA talked about the casting CROWE and why he thinks the actor took the job. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)

Arriving in theaters next month, SKYFALL is the 23rd installment in the venerated James Bond franchise and we can testify that it’s fairly safe to believe all those advance favorable reviews. This time around, the action is terrifically directed by SAM MENDES from a solid screenplay by JOHN LOGAN, NEAL PURVIS and ROBERT WADE. Once again, DANIEL CRAIG is the suave, womanizing, Brit secret agent 007 and the supporting cast of RALPH FIENNES, JAVIER BARDEM, JUDI DENCH and BEN WHISHAW is just as good as it gets. Especially memorable is BARDEM’S ambisexual villain, Silva, and during a recent interview to promote the film, CRAIG joked with us about the flirty scene Bond and Silva share.
