The preliminary weekend box office estimates show End of Watch and House at the End of the Street taking in $13 million, and Monday’s figures should determine the clear cut winner in this race. End of Watch, with an estimated production budget of just $7 million, performed above expectations, and House at the End of the Street, headlined by Jennifer Lawrence, was shot for just $10 million. Both films edged out the Clint Eastwood/Amy Adams baseball drama Trouble with the Curve, which took in $12.7 million and captured third place. Finding Nemo 3D continues to draw a solid audience, as the picture finished fourth with a $9.5 million haul. Unfortunately, the debut of Dredd 3D was abysmal, as the action film, which is a reboot of the Sylvester Stallone feature Judge Dredd, took sixth place with $6.3 million. Resident Evil: Retribution beat out Dredd 3D in its second weekend of release, coming in fifth with $6.7 million.
Rounding out the top ten, in descending order, are The Master ($5 million, #7), The Possession ($2.63 million, #8), Lawless ($2.32 million, #9), and ParaNorman ($2.29, #10).
