Finally getting a Blu-ray release today, TIM BURTON’S masterpiece ED WOOD, is a valentine to a man known lovingly as the worst filmmaker in Hollywood history. A heterosexual transvestite responsible for such movie milestones as PLAN NINE FROM OUTER SPACE and GLEN OR GLENDA?, ED WOOD was notorious for his guileless ambition, relentless drive and extremely odd circle of friends. Directed by BURTON with a cast that includes JOHNNY DEPP, SARAH JESSICA PARKER, BILL MURRAY, MARTIN LANDAU (an Oscar winner for his flawless portrayal of actor BELA LUGOSI), JEFFREY JONES and PATRICIA ARQUETTE, the film is a delightfully nostalgic bon-bon.
During our interview for the film’s original theatrical release, BURTON talked to us about why he was attracted to the idea of making a movie about the titular filmmaker. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)
And, JOHNNY DEPP revealed how he became involved in what would be the second of many collaborations with BURTON. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)
