Opening in limited release today, the highly anticipated period drama THE MASTER lives up to its hype and then some. A beautifully realized and thoughtfully conceived rumination on the psychology of cult religion and philosophy, the film centers on an alcoholic serviceman who returns home from World War II uncertain of what to do with his life until he meets a charismatic cult leader. Written and directed by PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON, the cast includes JOAQUIN PHOENIX, PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN, AMY ADAMS, LAURA DERN and PATTY McCORMACK.
