After a freshman season that managed to avoid any sign of extreme highs or lows, AARON SORKIN’S much talked-about new series THE NEWSROOM comes to a close tonight on HBO. Set in a fictional TV cable news station and centered on an iconoclastic anchor hell-bent on changing the world through self-righteous rants, the series has been a combination of all the things we’ve come to love and hate about SORKIN’S writing. Using storylines taken from actual headlines and employing a terrific cast (JEFF DANIELS, EMILY MORTIMER, DEV PATEL, SAM WATERSTON, OLIVIA MUNN), THE NEWSROOM has been, if nothing else, interesting.
