Arriving in theaters later this month, SPARKLE is a period musical set in the 1960’s and centered on three sisters who form a singing group, become Motown sensations and fall prey to all the pitfalls of fast fame and even faster company. Based on the 1976 cult classic of the same name directed by SAM O’STEEN, this re-visitation is helmed by SALIM AKIL and stars JORDIN SPARKS, DEREK LUKE, MIKE EPPS, CEE-LO GREEN and (in her final role) WHITNEY HOUSTON.
Stepping into the role originated by Academy Award-winner IRENE CARA, American Idol-winner JORDIN SPARKS did her homework before taking the job. During our recent interview, she admitted to checking out the original version of the film to get a sense of what all the fuss was about. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)
SPARKLE opens in theaters 8/17
