It seemed like yesterday actually when I covered the launch Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) some seven years ago, but time (or for that matter technology) waits for no one, as the Playstation Vita (PS Vita) is the latest handheld console to hit the market.
Since its February 22nd release in North America, Latin America, and Europe, the PS Vita has sold over 1.2 million units worldwide. “PS Vita was designed to deliver the ultimate portable entertainment experience, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the reaction we’re seeing from consumers and the pace at which the PS Vita is selling,” says Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. President and Group CEO Andrew House. “The market has responded and there is clear demand for a mobile device capable of providing a revolutionary gaming and social connectivity within a real world context.”
As an urbanite who’s always on the go, my main complaint was the sheer size of the PSP. But that argument, for me, now goes the way of the dodo bird, since I’m actually looking for an immersive gaming experience. With a high definition OLED multi-touch screen, quad core process, and dual analog sticks, the PS Vita is definitely on my to-purchase list. Plus, over 25 titles are available with Vita’s launch, which is also a selling point.
Any Vita fans (or detractors) out there? Tell me what you think, since (like most things), perspective would do me good.
