The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is just one of those games that, thankfully, just won’t go away. Today it was announced that PC gamers have downloaded over 2 million mods through the Skyrim Workshop. With the new Skyrim Creation Kit, PC users can create custom content, and over 2,500 mods have already been created since the Creation Kit’s launch a week ago.
Today’s press release from Bethesda Softworks also provided some staggering figures that I was previously unaware of - since its November release, the game has taken in over $650 million in retail sails, with over 10 million units of the game sold. According to the digital download service Steam, the average PC gamer has played Skyrim for over 75 hours.
Currently I’m on level 42 on Skyrim, and have decided to join the Imperials in their journey to take down the rebellious Stormcloaks (my weapons of choice: an enchanted Elven Greatsword, Bolar’s Oathblade, and my Conjure Flame Atronach spell). My trusty Xbox 360 and I have devoted over 75 hours on the open world adventure game, and I’m assuming the Creation Kit will eventually be available for 360 and PS3 users. For gamers who still haven’t tried Skyim, you have been warned - weeks sans discernible sunlight and a sparse love life is in your future (hence my lack of a sweetheart on Valentine’s Day). But when you’re a Dragonborn driven to save Skyrim and its inhabitants, dating (and reality) will have to wait.
