Although praised for his arresting visual style, director David Fincher often gets overlooked for his stellar work with actors.  Brad Pitt and Taraji P. Henson received Actor and Supporting Actress Oscar nods for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and more recently Jesse Eisenberg was honored with a Best Actor Oscar nod for The Social Network.

Mr. Fincher is behind the camera once again with a new version of The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, and during a press conference to promote the film he explains why, when working with actors, he never “extracts” a performance.  “You enable a performance,” says Fincher. “You cajole a performance, you prod…you’re trying to be efficient on any shoot day and actors are trying to be efficient as well and they are trying to get at the essential.”
