
It’s been described as a prequel to Alien and as Ridley Scott’s return to the sci-fi genre, and although the movie comes out this summer (June 8th, 2012), the specific plotline for Prometheus remains vague.
All we know is a team of scientists find themselves in a distant world, where they probably face a life force that threatens their very existence. The trailer, clocking in at a little over a minute, has brief flashes of the participants (Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Noomi Rapace) and the mood of the piece is summed up by Rapace’s terrified voice (featured in the beginning): “It was so wrong, I’m so sorry!”
If Prometheus is half as scary as Alien, then Scott has me hook, line, and sinker, especially since Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection failed to live up to the first two installments. I have no idea if Prometheus has any true tie-in with Ripley’s (Sigourney Weaver) world, but to steal a line from The Sun Also Rises…”Isn’t it pretty to think so?”
Prometheus actress Noomi Rapace (Sherlock Holmes, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) talks about why she doesn’t “like to pretend” when she’s acting:
