After checking out The Dark Knight Rises trailer, I took to Twitter and found this interesting comment from Lost producer (and Cowboys & Aliens screenwriter) Damon Lindelof: “If anyone has earned the right to kill Batman, it’s Nolan.  And kill him he will. #RiseIsAnAscensionMethaphor.”

Personally, I don’t see Batman biting the dust anytime soon.  On a practical level, the Dark Knight is the sole successful DC Comics superhero that Warner Bros. has put out in theaters, with last summer’s The Green Lantern performing far below expectations.  Although Nolan is producing Man of Steel, can director Zack Snyder rebound from Sucker Punch and successfully reboot the Superman franchise?  Nolan’s Batman trilogy may be over come The Dark Knight Rises release on July 20th, 2012, but the studio will continue with the franchise, as reported in Collider.

There have also been grumblings about the supposed incomprehensible mumblings of Bane (Tom Hardy), but unlike Ra’s Al Ghul (Liam Neeson) and The Joker (Heath Ledger), what Bane says doesn’t carry equal weight to what he does.  The Dark Knight Rises’ 6-minute prologue and trailer suggests Bane isn’t about mental chess games - he simply aims to destroy Gotham and pummel the Caped Crusader to submission.  “When Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die,” says a completely understandable Bane in the trailer.

Although Heath Ledger’s performance stands as the franchise’s finest moment, Mr. Hardy is no slouch either (for evidence, watch his work in Warrior and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy).

During a recent interview, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy co-star Gary Oldman gave us his impression of Hardy (they also worked together in Wettest County).  Click on the media bar to hear Oldman:

What did you think of The Dark Knight Rises trailer?  Can you understand what Bane is saying, or should Christopher Nolan fix it in post?  Will Bane kill The Dark Knight, as Lindelof says?  Is Anne Hathaway believable as Selina Kyle/Catwoman?
