
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows led the way during a tame holiday box office weekend, as it made $40 million (analysts projected the picture to pull in $50 million). Coming in second was Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked with $23.5 million. Mission: Impossible 4 had a solid $13 million debut, as it opened across the nation in 452 IMAX and large format theaters (it expands to more theaters on Wednesday). Here’s the top 10:
