American Idol season two champ Ruben Studdard has also been pursuing a career in acting, and he stars in the straight to DVD holiday stage play The Perfect Gift (Image Entertainment, 90 minutes, Not Rated) with Golden Brooks (Girlfriends) and Darius McCrary.  The story has the velvet teddy bear (I know, it’s been ages since that AI reference) playing a family man who still hasn’t married his longtime soulmate (Brooks).  Eventually he learns the true meaning of giving and self-sacrifice (hence the title).

Special features on the 2-Disc set include a photo gallery, the segments “Buddy Tells The Jokes” and “Gramps Sings,” as well as a bonus CD (two songs, one of which features Studdard).  The DVD was released this week and is available at select Wal-Mart stores and on Amazon.com.
