Johnny Depp was close friends with Hunter S. Thompson, and even though he’s done two films (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Rum Diary) on Thompson’s work, the actor says he’s not exactly putting the late journalist and author in his rear-view.

For Depp, Thompson still holds an influence on his life, and he recalls an interesting exchange he had with Bill Murray (he played Thompson in Where the Buffalo Roam) while on the set for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
