Johnny Depp has traveled in Hunter S. Thompson’s world before, with director Terry Gilliam’s 1998 feature Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. With The Rum Diary, Mr. Depp is back in the late writer’s territory, as he plays a free-wheeling journalist who finds adventure in 1950s Puerto Rico.
