2011-09-28-prohibitionEnjoying its debut this weekend on PBS, PROHIBITION is a six-hour miniseries from Award-winning documentary filmmaker KEN BURNS and his highly trained team of historians. Bound to please lounge-lizards and teetotalers alike, the series takes an in-depth look at the rise and fall of the 18th Amendment, the hypocrisy it engendered and its consequences, both intended and otherwise. Using interviews and archival footage to show the hopelessness of a forced faith driven moral code, the series is narrated by PETER COYOTE and features voiceovers from PATRICIA CLARKSON, SAMUEL L. JACKSON, BLYTHE DANNER, PAUL GIAMATTI, TOM HANKS, JOHN LITHGOW and OLIVER PLATT. Not at all stodgy, BURNS’ documentary is as entertaining as it is informative.
At the recent press conference to promote the program, author DANIEL OKRENT (on whose book the series is based) told one of his favorite drinking stories from the show. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)
