782613 - Moneyball Based on the Michael Lewis non-fiction bestseller, Moneyball centers on Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane’s (Brad Pitt) controversial approach to fielding a baseball team with a low payroll.  By using computer statistics with the aid of an intelligent numbers cruncher (Jonah Hill), the pair’s approach to the game was met with controversy.  Still, Beane stuck to his guns, and has made a huge impact on America’s national pastime.

“At the end of the day, it’s a story about our values,” says Pitt.  “How we value other people.  What we value as success. What we value as failure.  How we even take that value system and understand our own values.   That value system is warped with prejudice and bias.  There are so many themes (in the film) and I could go on about seventies films that I thought this related to in these characters but ultimately it’s a justice story.  Ultimately it took (director) Bennett Miller to crack this unconventional story.”
