Bryce Dallas Howard followed her dad (Ron Howard) into the acting business, and like her father, she is also expanding her creative horizons as a producer. The actress is one of the driving forces behind the Gus Van Sant directed drama Restless, which focuses on a funeral crashing youth (Henry Hopper) who falls in love with a terminally ill teenager (Mia Waskikowska).
Although she spent years shepherding Restless (her friend Jason Lew penned the script), Howard decided not to act in the film. “I have a lot of admiration for people who can act and direct, or act and produce,” says Howard, who co-stars in this summer’s runaway hit The Help. “It requires I think a lot of skill and a tremendous ability to multitask. I knew going into this, while I was very passionate about the project and confident in what Jason had created, I knew that I was green. I think to early on decide that I want to be in it too, I would have been compromising a performance or my ability to contribute to the project as a producer.”

Restless opens in limited release September 16th.
