Based on David Nicholls’ bestselling novel, One Day focuses on the two decades long friendship of Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess), as viewers experience the pair’s highs and lows on a specific day (July 15th) throughout the years.
Hathaway says the movie, directed by An Education filmmaker Lone Scherfig, is not your average romantic comedy (for readers who hate spoilers, don’t click on this clip!):
“(Emma) is not the sort of person who is interested in changing herself,” says Hathaway. “She’s not somebody who’s going to go out and try on a new identity - she’s trying to refine the one she has. She’s actually quite true to herself even when she’s unhappy about who she is. It was a lot of fun to figure where she winds up and then work backwards from it.”
