desc2 Alexander Payne’s new film The Descendants will serve as the closing night feature for the New York Film Festival, which runs from September 30th-October 16th.

Based on the Kaui Hart Hemmings book, the story centers on a father (George Clooney) who bonds with his two daughters (Shailene Woodley, Amara Miller) after his wife is injured in a boating accident.  This is Mr. Payne’s first feature length film since his acclaimed 2004 effort Sideways (he also directed one of the shorts in the 2006 picture Paris, I Love You).

The Descendants, which opens November 23rd, was co-written by Nat Faxon, one of the voice actors on the upcoming Fox animated series Allen Gregory.

With his writing partner Jim Rash (Dean Pelton from Community), Faxon collaborated with Payne on The Descendants. Click on the media bar and listen to Faxon talk about initially penning the screenplay during the Writers’ Strike.
